ls-boi-35Went for an early morning walk around Moturua Island, took a couple of hours wandering around taking pics. Middle of January and not another soul in sight. Gorgeous sandy beaches, Mangahawea on the western side was being patrolled by dotterill and oyster catchers.

Moturua is one of seven islands in the Bay that has been cleared of pests by www.projectislandsong.co.nz. On my way up from Waipao Bay I sat on the track under the canopy and listened. Wonderful birdsong. At one point I had four tui in the tree above me. Very cool. The Project Island Song guys have done a fantastic job. Check their website, hit the get involved button, volunteer, become a member, sponsor a trap... Also included in the slideshow a few shots taken on Waewaetorea, gin clear Stingray Bay and a pano from the peak looking East over Urupukapuka and out to the Cape.
