After selling Arethusa, Hereward Pickmere bought Winsome from his father. She's a 1918 Bailey & Lowe, he carried out most of the charting of his atlas from her. Caught up with David Pickmere in Omakiwi over the weekend and we got some shots of the two boats side by side...
Here's some information on Winsome written by marine historian Harold Kidd...
"Winsome was built in 1918 by Bailey & Lowe for J.H. Foster of Auckland. Later owners were the Whitney brothers (of the Colonial Ammunition Co) in 1920, W A Wilkinson in 1921. He renamed her Wilma briefly. Then she was bought by (Colonel) Dr. Phil Andrew of Russell in 1923, then A R Pickmere of Whangarei later in the year. He sold her to his son A H (Hereward) Pickmere in 1943 and he used her to chart the Northland coast and produce the Pickmere Atlas after the war. She is still owned by the Whangarei Pickmere family".
